Softball Game Preview: Muir Mustangs vs. Mark Keppel Aztecs

The Muir Mustangs will square off against the Mark Keppel Aztecs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Muir 3.7, Mark Keppel 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Muir's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when Upland hitters got past them. Muir lost 10-0 to Upland on Tuesday. The match marked the first time this year in which the Mustangs were not able to get on the board.

Muir saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Perez, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Meanwhile, Mark Keppel entered their tilt with El Monte on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Lions. The Aztecs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by eight runs or more this season.

Robyn Guitron spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 18 Ks. Those 18 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Lauren Young was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Janelle Fernandez, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Mark Keppel's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Muir, they moved to 7-2 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
