Softball Recap: Waltham Wins Going Away Against Malden

Waltham had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 19-run drubbing they dealt Malden on Tuesday. The Hawks blew past the Golden Tornados 22-3. That 19 run margin sets a new team best for the Hawks this season.

Josie Proskoczilo and Kayla Smith were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Proskoczilo tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Smith tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Proskoczilo went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI, while Smith went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Lilli Carey was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Laila Drouillard, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Waltham lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Waltham now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Malden, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Waltham will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Golden Tornados: the pair will be back at it again later today.
