Basketball Recap: Mauldin Mavericks vs. Greenwood Eagles
After flying high against Woodmont last Tuesday, Mauldin came back down to earth. The Mauldin Mavericks were just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 54-53 to the Greenwood Eagles. The Mavericks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 52-48.

Despite the loss, Mauldin still got an impressive performance from Zara Leamon, who went 12-for-20 to rack up 31 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. That's the most points Leamon has posted since back in February of 2024. J'Dah Aiken was another key player, putting up four points.
Greenwood was led to victory by Danielle Oliver and Tykirea Johnson. Oliver almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine boards, while Johnson earned 20 points. Johnson is becoming a predictor of Greenwood's success: when she posts at least 15 points the team is 8-1 (and 7-8 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Camryn Fuller, who put up four points and six rebounds.
Mauldin's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Greenwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.
