Baseball Recap: Ladysmith Find Success

Ladysmith lost to Barron back in April, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Lumberjacks walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Golden Bears. The game was the first time the Lumberjacks have beaten the Golden Bears on their field since May 6, 2023.

Laine Gerber was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Danny Vacho, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Summerfield, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Ladysmith kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Ladysmith's record is now 4-15. As for Barron, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-4-1.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Ladysmith will challenge rival Ashland at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: the Lumberjacks have lost ten straight at home (dating back to last season), while the Oredockers have lost three on the road. Meanwhile, Barron is set to take on their familiar foe Spooner at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
