Preview: Brandeis Broncos vs. Lee Volunteers
Brandeis has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Lee Volunteers at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Brandeis ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They secured a 73-68 W over Marshall. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Brandeis to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trevor Short, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Philyaw, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, even though SA Roosevelt scored an imposing 60 points on Wednesday, Lee still came out on top. Lee pulled ahead with a 61-60 photo finish over SA Roosevelt. Given Lee's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 169th, while SA Roosevelt is ranked 519th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brandeis' record now sits at 11-13. Lee's record is now 20-8.
Brandeis came up short against Lee when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 67-54. Can Brandeis avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
