Baseball Game Preview: Willamette Wolverines vs. Grants Pass Cavemen

The Willamette Wolverines will head out on the road to take on the Grants Pass Cavemen at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

If Willamette beats Grants Pass with eight runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Wolverines beat South Eugene on Wednesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 8-7. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Axe recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Grants Pass waltzed into their game on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Cardinals.

Grants Pass pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Willamette, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
