Baseball Recap: Iona Prep Wins Going Away Against Cardinal Hayes

Iona Prep had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Cardinal Hayes on Tuesday. The Gaels blew past the Cardinals 20-5. Considering the Gaels have won five contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kendrick Jorge was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Diaz, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.

Iona Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .651. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cardinal Hayes only posted an OBP of .435.

Iona Prep is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cardinal Hayes, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Iona Prep will face off against rival Kennedy Catholic at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Iona Prep 3, Kennedy Catholic 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Cardinal Hayes is set to square off against their familiar foe Regis at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
