Softball Recap: La Joya Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses at Home

There's no place like home for La Joya, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Economedes Jaguars on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Coyotes needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Alexia Guajardo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Merelly Rodriguez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Liani Rodriguez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs.

La Joya's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-13. As for Economedes, they dropped their record down to 4-16 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

La Joya has already played their next match, a 23-0 loss against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo on the 15th. As for Economedes, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 17-1 defeat against Weslaco on the 15th.
