Walton hands Greyhounds first loss of the season; Assumption tops St. Joseph's Academy at Louisville Invitational.

Walton (Marietta, Ga.) has been Pope's nemesis for some time and last week the Greyhounds once again came up short against their AAAAA foes.

Pope dropped its first game of the season after 22 straight wins with a loss to Walton last week. Walton is ranked No. 1 in the AAAAA rankings in Georgia while Pope is ranked No. 1 in the AAAA rankings. Walton also handed Pope its only two losses last season. Pope had defeated Walton in their previous meeting this year.

While Pope dropped in this week's MaxPreps Xcellent 25 Volleyball National Rankings presented by Army National Guard due to the loss, Assumption was one team that managed to rise despite a loss. The Rockets fell to Mercy earlier in the week, but they came back to win the Louisville Invitational Tournament with a victory over Mercy and a win against St. Joseph's Academy of St. Louis, a team ranked in some polls as the No. 1 team in the country.
