 Newman was not able to break out of their rough patch  on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight  defeat. They fell just short of the Edgar Wildcats by a score of  2-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Newman of the  4-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture  last Tuesday.
  Ashley Jankowski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned  (and one unearned) run on 12 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't  pitched less than six  innings every time she's  pitched this season.
 At the plate, Newman saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Molly Merrill, who  went 2-for-3 with two  doubles.
 Even though they lost, Newman  hit smart and  finished the game with only two  strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edgar struck out six times.
 On Edgar's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in:  Morgan Streveler gave up one  run (which was  unearned)  on five hits.
 On the hitting side,  Emery Borchardt was  excellent,  going 2-for-4 with a  triple, a  run,  and a  double.
 Newman's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Edgar, the  victory was  the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-5.
 Newman will head out on the road to  take on  Chequamegon at 4:45  p.m.  on Friday. Chequamegon will roll in looking for their  fifth straight  win, something Newman surely won't give up without a fight. As for Edgar, they will be playing at home against Pacelli at 4:45  p.m.  on Friday. Pacelli's pitching crew has only allowed 0.6  runs per game  this season, so Edgar's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
