Softball Recap: Cape Henlopen Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Smyrna

Cape Henlopen faced Smyrna in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Vikings fell 5-2 to the Eagles. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Vikings couldn't push the score so high this time.

Abby Marsh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cape Henlopen saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abi Crouch, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Cape Henlopen's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 19-2. As for Smyrna, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-7.

As of now, neither Cape Henlopen nor the Eagles have any future games scheduled.
