Baseball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Marshall County's Winning Streak

Marshall County dropped their record down to 16-9 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mt. Vernon Rams. Considering the last time the Marshals couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

As for Mt. Vernon, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-14 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

For Mt. Vernon's part, not much got past Eli Prost, who gave up just five hits to keep Marshall County off the board. Prost has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alex Kiefer was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Mt. Vernon is 5-1 when Kiefer posts two or more runs, but 5-13 otherwise.

Coincidentally, Marshall County and Mt. Vernon will both be playing Zeigler-Royalton the next time they take the field. The Marshals will host the Tornadoes at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, while the Rams will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
