Football Recap: Triton Trojans vs. Pioneer Panthers
Friday just wasn't the day for Triton's offense. They were beaten by the Pioneer Panthers 42-0 on Friday. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Trojans, who until this contest were averaging 13.75 points allowed.
Gage Riffle threw for 66 yards on three of 12 attempts. Isaac Quintana was his top target, picking up 55 receiving yards. On the ground, Jayden Overmyer rushed for 118 yards.
Pioneer's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Noah Vanmeter, who rushed for 170 yards and three TDs while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. That's the most rushing touchdowns Vanmeter has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Micah Rans, who rushed for 63 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six carries.
Triton's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Pioneer, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Triton will face off against rival North Miami at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Pioneer is set to take on their familiar foe North Judson-San Pierre at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Panthers 10, the Bluejays 11.9) so any points scored will be well earned.
