Recap: Vicksburg Gators vs. Ridgeland Titans
On Friday, the Vicksburg Gators faced the Ridgeland Titans in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Vicksburg took a 57-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ridgeland. The contest was a 25-25 toss-up at halftime, but Vicksburg couldn't quite close it out.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ridgeland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Phil Nelson, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Nelson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Stevent Watkins, who scored 17 points.
Vicksburg's defeat dropped their record down to 21-6. As for Ridgeland, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-9 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vicksburg will take on Lake Cormorant at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lake Cormorant will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Vicksburg is ranked 11th). As for Ridgeland, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Grenada at 6:00 p.m. on February 17th. Ridgeland has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 651 points over their last ten matches.
