It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Saratoga Central Catholic had no problem doing just that on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hoosic Valley Hawks a 12-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won 16 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Ryan Gillis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Brian Selig was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

The victory (which was Saratoga Central Catholic's fourth in a row) raised their record to 20-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Hoosic Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.
