Baseball Recap: Bassett Comes Up Short

Bassett extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-17 in the process. They lost 17-0 to the Edgewood Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 back in March.

As for Edgewood, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.

For Edgewood's part, Raymond Tafolla was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Tafolla also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Edgewood is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise. Tafolla was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Omar Chavez and Noah Ramirez did most of the damage at the plate: Chavez went 2-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Ramirez went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five stolen bases gave Chavez a new career-high. Tony Madriz was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

While Bassett had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
