Volleyball Recap: Punahou Falls Short Against Ranked 'Iolani

Punahou faced 'Iolani in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Buff n' Blue took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raiders. The Buff n' Blue have struggled against the Raiders recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Punahou started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 24-26, 25-18, 27-25, 25-15.

Maddix Taniguchi was a one-woman wrecking crew For 'Iolani. as she had 19 digs and four assists. Mary Kate Kawakami also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.

Punahou's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for 'Iolani, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-3.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Punahou is set to take on their familiar foe Mid-Pacific Institute at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, 'Iolani will challenge rival Kamehameha Kapalama at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
