The Wellsboro Hornets will venture away from home to square off against the South Williamsport Mountaineers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Wellsboro sitting on three straight wins and South Williamsport on four.
Wellsboro proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by 15) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They never let Towanda get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hornets have posted since May 14, 2024.
Towanda's batters probably weren't too happy with Maxwell Mascho, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 11 Ks (he gave up a single walk). Mascho has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Wellsboro's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Griffin Morral, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base was Morral's first of the season.
Meanwhile, South Williamsport was able to grind out a solid win over Midd-West on Thursday, taking the game 5-1.
Tadd Lusk was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. Torin Haug was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
South Williamsport pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Wellsboro, their record is now 6-7.
Wellsboro suffered a grim 15-3 defeat to South Williamsport when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
