Football Recap: Lopez Lobos vs. Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets

Lopez extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 4-6. They were beaten by the Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets 48-17. The Lobos lost against the Yellowjackets in their previous head to head back in November of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 24-17 score last time.

Although Lopez took the loss, they still got scores from Eliazar Ireguas and Kenneth Mitchell.

As for Edcouch-Elsa, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 28.5 points over those games.

Ayden Mercado was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 154 yards and four TDs while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. Those four rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Pena, who rushed for 112 yards on only five carries.

Lopez does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Edcouch-Elsa, they will take on Pioneer at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
