Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Mt. Vernon had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They snuck past the O'Fallon Panthers with a 49-43 win.

Mt. Vernon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marlin Price led the charge by going 6 for 9 on his way to 14 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Price a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was David Barnes, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Mt. Vernon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Mt. Vernon's victory bumped their record up to 11-5. As for O'Fallon, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-13.

Mt. Vernon will take on Salem in a tournament on Thursday. Mt. Vernon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.6 points per game this season. As for O'Fallon, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the O'Fallon Panthers duke it out with the Cardinal Ritter College Prep Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
