Preview: Colusa RedHawks vs. East Nicolaus Spartans
Colusa is 1-7 against East Nicolaus since September of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Colusa RedHawks will head out on the road to face off against the East Nicolaus Spartans at 7:30 p.m. Colusa is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
Last Friday, Colusa didn't have too much trouble with Winters at home as they won 35-20.
William McCoy had a dynamite game for Colusa, rushing for 192 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, and also picking up 43 receiving yards. Bo Coronado was another key contributor, throwing for 170 yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, East Nicolaus was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 28-24 to Live Oak. Despite 65 more yards than Live Oak, East Nicolaus couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Tristan Kotko, who gained 136 total yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Cleary, who rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.
Colusa's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.6 points per game. As for East Nicolaus, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Colusa has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 171.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like East Nicolaus struggles in that department as they've been even better at 226 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Colusa was dealt a bruising 43-14 loss at the hands of East Nicolaus when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Can Colusa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
