Basketball Game Preview: Arundel Wildcats vs. Southern Bulldogs

Arundel and Southern are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Arundel Wildcats will welcome the Southern Bulldogs at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Arundel picked up another tournament win on Friday. They secured a 47-43 W over Frederick. The 47-point effort marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Arundel had a senior duo take command as Javeon Reed went 8 of 17 on his way to 20 points in addition to five assists and four steals and Phoenix Eggleston dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 boards. Eggleston is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted six or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Samson Anjorin, who posted six points and 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Southern had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 43 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They walked away with a 47-35 win over the Chargers. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Chargers are ranked 204th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Southern's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Arundel, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Arundel against Southern in their previous matchup back in February, as the team secured a 74-41 win. Will Arundel repeat their success, or does Southern have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
