High school basketball: No. 6 Calvary Christian Academy defeats top-ranked Camden 66-48 at Hoophall Classic

Smothering defense keeps top-ranked junior D.J. Wagner contained and five-star junior Marvel Allen goes for 22 points as the Eagles cruise to victory.

Sixth-ranked Calvary Christian Academy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) made a major statement in its 66-48 victory over top-ranked Camden (N.J.) Saturday night at the Spalding Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass.

Five-star junior Marvel Allen who finished with 22 points, four rebounds and three assists for the 11-1 Eagles while UCF pledge Taylor Hendricks chipped in 18 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and four blocks.

The game started out back-and-forth for the first few minutes, but the Eagles quickly busted things open and jumped out to a 19-8 lead after the first quarter and a 37-21 lead at halftime.

The second half was much of the same as Calvary Christian Academy won the third quarter 17-6 before cruising to the easy victory to hand the Panthers' their second straight defeat following the team's first loss in 44 games on Thursday night against Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.).

Calvary Christian Academy dominated in all facets of the game and shot 49 percent from the field, while holding Camden to 31.7 percent.



Top-ranked junior prospect D.J. Wagner was smothered defensively, shooting 5-of-20 from the field for 12 points in the loss. Camden (7-2) looks to rebound in their next game Monday against Milton (Ga.).
