Baseball Recap: Somerset Makes It Nine in a Row at Home

Somerset got themselves on the board against Bedford on Thursday, but Bedford never followed suit. They walked away with a 4-0 win over the Bisons. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Bisons: they've now won six in a row.

Not much got past Braeden Flower, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Bedford off the board. That's the fewest hits Flower has allowed since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, Callen Miller and Max Means did most of the damage at the plate: Miller went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI, while Means scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave Means a new career-high. Lane Lambert also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Somerset was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Somerset's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bedford, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-2.

The future could be bright for both Somerset and Bedford: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Somerset will try to hand Bishop Carroll their fifth-straight loss when the two meet at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Bedford will look to extend Everett's three-game losing streak when they meet at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
