The Frostproof Bulldogs will square off against the Lake Placid Dragons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Frostproof is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They walked away with a 9-4 win over Lake Gibson on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Luke Thornton made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Thornton was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Bradley Roberts was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That run marked the first that he scored this season. Nico Rybinski was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Frostproof hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Gibson struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, Lake Placid hadn't done well against Okeechobee recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Lake Placid came out on top against Okeechobee by a score of 7-2. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Dragons as it put an end to their nine-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Griffin Von Merveldt made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on August Stivender, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Cane Allaire, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Frostproof's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Lake Placid, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.
