Football Recap: Santa Margarita Wins High-Profile Match Against Centennial + How To Watch

Santa Margarita faced Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Eagles snuck past the Huskies with a 33-27 victory. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their three-point performance the match before.

Trace Johnson was nothing short of spectacular: he threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in one TD on the ground. A healthy portion of Johnson's aerial production (83 yards to be exact) went to Luke Gazzaniga.

Santa Margarita didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ca'Ron Williams and Jayden Crowder. Williams got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Several Huskies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ty Plinski, who picked up 123 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Malaki Davis was another key player, rushing for 68 yards and one touchdown.

The win got Santa Margarita back to even at 1-1. As for Centennial, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Looking ahead, Santa Margarita is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will challenge Highland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Centennial, they will host Bingham at 7:00 p.m. on the 6th.
