The Rebels overcame a 24-21 deficit late in the third quarter by scoring 21 unanswered points over the final 8:07. First-year starting quarterback
Nick Myers scored on a 1-yard plunge to put Maryville back on top.
The Rebels then received a major break when their ensuing kickoff went into a strong wind and fell on an Alcoa blocker's helmet, with Maryville recovering at the Alcoa 18-yard line. Two plays later Myers connected with
T.j. Kimble on a 15-yard scoring pass. Following an interception, junior tailback
Shawn Prevo scored on a 5-yard run for the final 18-point margin. Prevo carried 16 times for 77 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The 6-foot-1 Myers rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns while passing for 125 yards (10 of 16 with no interceptions) and two more touchdowns.
A backup last year, Myers told the Knoxville News-Sentinel, "I've been waiting a long time to make those plays. It sealed the deal for us."

Peyton Wall completed nine of 11 passes for 168 yards.
