Softball Game Preview: Arroyo Dons vs. San Leandro Pirates

Arroyo is 8-2 against San Leandro since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Arroyo Dons will square off against the San Leandro Pirates at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Arroyo's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 14-0 margin over Piedmont. The win continues a trend for the Dons in their matchups with the Highlanders: they've now won six in a row.

Ariana 'Tuki' Rocha made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Aneesa Aguon was a standout: she scored four runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nayeli Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Arroyo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, San Leandro entered their tilt with Hayward on Wednesday with four consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Farmers with a sharp 16-1 victory. Considering the Pirates have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Arroyo's record now sits at 2-3. As for San Leandro, their record is now 9-1.

Everything went Arroyo's way against San Leandro in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Arroyo made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Arroyo since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
