Basketball Game Preview: Burlington Cougars vs. Simla Cubs

The Burlington Cougars just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Simla Cubs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Thursday, everything came up roses for Burlington against Deer Trail as the team secured a 54-21 victory. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while the Eagles are ranked 282nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Simla's strategy against Elbert on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Simla blew Elbert out of the water with a 76-18 final score. The win continues a trend for the Cubs in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.

Simla's win came from a few key players Burlington will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Carlee Cox, who posted 11 points and six steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kylie Maranville, who put up eight points in addition to 11 rebounds and six assists.

Burlington's record is now 15-3. As for Simla, their record is now 14-4.
