Football Game Preview: Morrisville-Eaton Mavericks vs. Frankfort-Schuyler Maroon Knights

The Morrisville-Eaton Mavericks will challenge the Frankfort-Schuyler Maroon Knights at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Morrisville-Eaton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New York's top teams: Waterville, who was ranked eighth at the time (Morrisville-Eaton was ranked third). The Mavericks simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Indians 48-6. The victory was familiar territory for the Mavericks, who have now won eight contests in a row.

Mason Marland had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 380 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 23.8 yards per carry. His longest rush was for an incredible 98 yards. Another player making a difference was Wesley Dimperio, who rushed for 98 yards and one TD on only eight carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Morrisville-Eaton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 634 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Morrisville-Eaton's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Marland, Gabriel Geiger, and Taiden Eaton, who each picked up one sack apiece. Morrisville-Eaton got some further help from Gavin Baker: he made 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Frankfort-Schuyler got the win against Sauquoit Valley on Friday by a conclusive 54-34. The win continues a trend for the Maroon Knights in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won seven in a row.

Morrisville-Eaton's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Frankfort-Schuyler, their win bumped their record up to 10-0.

Morrisville-Eaton couldn't quite finish off Frankfort-Schuyler in their previous meeting back in September and fell 20-18. Can the Mavericks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
