Baseball Game Preview: Sahuarita Mustangs vs. Nogales Apaches

Sahuarita is 1-9 against Nogales since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Apaches at 6:00 p.m. Sahuarita's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Nogales' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Last Wednesday, Sahuarita narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Douglas 4-2. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, Nogales entered their match against Buena on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Apaches came up short against the Colts, falling 14-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Apaches have suffered since March 7th.

Xaciel Garcia made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Juan Pablo Tapia was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

Sahuarita's victory bumped their record up to 11-2-1. As for Nogales, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-6-1.

Sahuarita might still be hurting after the 13-5 loss they got from Nogales when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
