Softball Recap: Highland Park Takes a Loss

Highland Park had lost seven straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped down to 3-12 to make it eight. They lost 13-0 to the York Dukes. The game marked the first time this season in which the Giants were not able to get on the board.

As for York, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games.

For York's part, they got a great performance from Sophia Lanciloti as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lillianah Burda, who fired off four doubles, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those four doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Steinecker, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Coming up, Highland Park will face off against Glenbard West at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. The Hilltoppers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.25 runs per game on average), something the Giants will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for York, they will be taking part in a tournament against Whitney Young at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Dukes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dolphins have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
