Baseball Recap: Jose Bojorquez and Giovanni Jimenez Secure Win for South

South won against Woodlake last Saturday with 14 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. South beat the North Stars by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 14-3. Considering the Spartans have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Tomas Encinas made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, South let Giovanni Jimenez and Jose Bojorquez run wild. Jimenez scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Bojorquez scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs Jimenez has posted since back in May of 2024. Felipe Retano was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 1-for-2.

South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in four consecutive matches.

South's record is now 8-2. As for North, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South will venture away from home to square off against Tehachapi at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for North, they will head out to face off against West at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. North is facing West at the right time seeing as West is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
