Jackson Day had won four straight home games and Jarrett Ross did his part to make it five on Friday. The Mariners took down the NCSSM: Morganton Dragons 68-51 thanks in part to Ross, who went 5-for-9 on his way to 13 points and five steals. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

Another player making a difference was Trey Gbenyon, who posted ten points and five steals. Jackson Day is undefeated when Gbenyon posts three or more steals, but 2-4 otherwise.

When it comes to explaining why NCSSM: Morganton lost, don't look at Bransen Pittman. Despite the final result, he shot 47% from the field en route to 14 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Gutschall, who put up six points and ten boards.

Jackson Day's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for NCSSM: Morganton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Jackson Day didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 68-48 win against Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy on the 9th. As for NCSSM: Morganton, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mountain Island Charter at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2026.
