Football Recap: Central Valley Christian Skates Past Reedley with Ease

Central Valley Christian never let their opponents score on Thursday. They breezed past the Reedley Pirates to the tune of 42-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cavaliers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 258th, while the Pirates are ranked 543rd).

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Ja'Khari Burrell and Shondel Hogan. Burrell rushed for 92 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries while Hogan rushed for 112 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries. Burrell has become a key player for Central Valley Christian: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Josh Hilvers, who rushed for 70 yards and one score.

Central Valley Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 319 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

Central Valley Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Owen Caudle and Hogan.

Central Valley Christian's win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-6. As for Reedley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Central Valley Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Lompoc at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. The Cavaliers will be up against the Braves' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.22 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Reedley, they will head out on the road to challenge Sanger West at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
