Basketball Recap: Darion Collins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mardela over Snow Hill

Mardela has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 64-56 to the Snow Hill Eagles on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 70-67 back in December of 2024.

Mardela's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Darion Collins, who went 8 for 17 on his way to 23 points along with seven boards and four blocks. Collins is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zyair Johnson, who went 5 of 10 to rack up 13 points in addition to seven assists and three steals.

Mardela's loss dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Snow Hill, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mardela will venture away from home to square off against Wicomico at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Mardela is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season. As for Snow Hill, they will head out to challenge Washington at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing isn't great for Washington: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Snow Hill has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
