Preview: West Columbus Vikings vs. Whiteville Wolfpack

The West Columbus Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Whiteville Wolfpack at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Columbus is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.

On Wednesday, West Columbus slipped by the Eagles 47-46.

Unique Kelly continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Triston Freeman, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Whiteville pushed their score all the way to 64 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 73-64 to Heide Trask. While losing is never fun, Whiteville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 448th, while the Titans are ranked 145th).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Will Fisher, who scored 22 points along with five assists. Amari Best was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.

West Columbus has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Whiteville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-11.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: West Columbus have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Whiteville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

West Columbus strolled past the Wolfpack when the teams last played back in January by a score of 70-53. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Columbus since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
