Baseball Recap: Rainier Has No Trouble Against Winlock

Rainier won the last time they faced Winlock and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Mountaineers blew past the Cardinals 16-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mountaineers.

Yazama Gurnsey was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Rainier is 2-1 when Gurnsey posts two or more runs, but 3-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Rainier got a massive performance out of Wyatt Cughan, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three RBI gave Cughan a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Goodman, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Rainier kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 12.8.

Rainier's record now sits at 5-10. As for Winlock, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.
