Softball Recap: Clay Comes Up Short

Clay extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 2-3. They came up short against the Ponte Vedra Sharks, falling 8-2. The contest marked the Blue Devils' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Clay saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Hackett, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.

As for Ponte Vedra, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.2 runs this season.

On Ponte Vedra's side, Aoife Weaver spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up six Ks. Weaver has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Nadia Campbell was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Siebenaler, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Clay will square off against Orange Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ponte Vedra, they will take on Fleming Island at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
