Basketball Game Preview: Keswick Christian Crusaders vs. Boca Ciega Pirates

The Keswick Christian Crusaders will take on the Boca Ciega Pirates at 7:45 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Keswick Christian came up short against King's Academy on Saturday, falling 71-45. While losing is never fun, the Crusaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while the Lions are ranked 16th).

Keswick Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Robyn Cantwell, who went 6 for 14 on her way to 16 points, and Maya Devega, who posted eight points. Those eight points gave Devega a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Angel L?Eon, who had four points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Boca Ciega was not able to break out of their rough patch back in December of 2024 as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 63-25 defeat at the hands of Clearwater.

Boca Ciega's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Keswick Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-5.

Everything went Keswick Christian's way against Boca Ciega in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as Keswick Christian made off with a 70-48 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Boca Ciega's Jacquavia Ferguson, who went 11 of 23 on her way to 32 points. Now that she won't be playing on Monday, will it be easier for Keswick Christian to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
