Softball Recap: Carterville Finds Playoff Glory Versus Carmi-White County

Carterville extended their postseason success on Friday against Carmi-White County. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 5-0 shutout. The Lions' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three games.

The result came thanks to Caidence Phillips's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 21 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Savannah Gibbs, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Kendall McCalla was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Carterville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive matchups.

Carterville's victory bumped their record up to 25-4. As for Carmi-White County, their loss dropped their record down to 12-15.

As of now, neither Carterville nor the Bulldogs have any future games scheduled.
