Kit Deforest was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Clayton Pryor was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Soquel hadn't done well against Aptos recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Soquel skirted past Aptos 6-5. The game snapped a strange streak: the last three times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Jake Escalante made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Escalante wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Enzo Goff, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another was Sam Whelan, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Soquel's victory bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Scotts Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Scotts Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. However, it's not like Soquel struggles in that department as they've averaged .461. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Scotts Valley took their win against Soquel when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0. Will Scotts Valley repeat their success, or does Soquel has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
