Softball Recap: Geneseo Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Geneseo came out on top against Rock Island on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run first inning. The Maple Leafs blew past the Rocks 13-2. Considering the Maple Leafs have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Addison Snell made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Kendyl Wassenhove looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Remlee Dwyer, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Piquard, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Geneseo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .447. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory was the third in a row for Geneseo, bringing their record up to 20-9-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Rock Island, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Geneseo will host Sterling at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rock Island, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Minooka at 10:00 a.m.
