Rhyder Bayne and Conner Schumacher did some serious damage despite the final result: Bayne went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple, while Schumacher went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Peetz is 2-1 when Schumacher posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tanner Wood, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Akron waltzed into their contest on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. That looming 16-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Rams yet this season.
Clay Axtell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Axtell was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jax Kusel, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Nolan Camacho was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Akron always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Peetz dropped their record down to 3-4 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Akron, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Peetz has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .569. However, it's not like Akron struggles in that department as they've averaged .490. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
