Baseball Recap: West Mesa Sets Scoring Season-High Against Del Norte

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Mesa). They put the hurt on the Del Norte Knights with a sharp 22-3 victory on Tuesday. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Armoni Baca made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Baca was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for West Mesa: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, West Mesa got a big performance out of Ayden Gonzales, who scored three runs while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance gave Gonzales a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Rodriguez, who went 1-for-4 with three runs and one triple.

West Mesa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Del Norte only posted an OBP of .381.

West Mesa picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Del Norte, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

West Mesa has already played their next contest (against Hope Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Del Norte, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, an 8-1 win against Highland on the 5th.
