Baseball Recap: Decatur Gets the Win

Decatur proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by six) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Kentwood Conquerors. This was payback for the Golden Gators, who suffered an 11-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Hunter Buol looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Eric Havili, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Spencer Holloway, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two RBI.

Decatur kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kentwood only managed five hits.

Decatur's victory bumped their record up to 2-0.

Coming up, Decatur will face off against Auburn Riverside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Kentwood, they will square off against Curtis at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Kentwood has played (dating back to last season) have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
