Football Recap: Holmdel Comes Up Short

The Holmdel Hornets ended up a good deal behind the Brick Memorial Mustangs on Friday and lost 55-41. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jason Lajara was his usual excellent self, throwing for 411 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81.2% of his passes, and also rushing for 116 yards and three TDs on only 14 carries for Brick Memorial. With that strong performance, Lajara is now averaging an impressive 100.2 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Nazeer Whittaker, who gained 218 total yards and two touchdowns.

Holmdel's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Brick Memorial, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.

Holmdel and Brick Memorial should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings. The Hornets (ranked 32nd) will meet Marlboro (ranked 99th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Brick Memorial will take on Brick Township at 6:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (33 vs. 143).
