Basketball Game Preview: Douglas Byrd Eagles vs. Lumberton Pirates

Douglas Byrd hasn't had much luck against Lumberton recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The two teams will face off at 6:00 p.m. without much rest having both just played.

Douglas Byrd is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They were dealt a 61-34 loss at the hands of Cape Fear.

Meanwhile, Lumberton waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They secured a 61-55 W over the Bears.

Lumberton had a senior duo take command as Gabryell Locklear went 7 of 12 en route to 27 points and Andrea Brown almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Locklear has scored all season. Giselle Leach was another key player, putting up three points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.

Lumberton is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Douglas Byrd, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.

Douglas Byrd came up short against Lumberton in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 45-35. Can Douglas Byrd avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
