Softball Game Preview: Hillcrest Patriots vs. West Blocton Tigers

The Hillcrest Patriots will challenge the West Blocton Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hillcrest has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight defeats, while West Blocton will come in with six straight wins.

Hillcrest's tournament run continued when they took on Sparkman on Saturday. The Patriots lost 13-2 to the Senators.

West Blocton came out on top against Demopolis on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. West Blocton put the hurt on Demopolis with a sharp 10-2 victory. West Blocton might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 19 matches by six runs or more this season.

Khloe Forsythe made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacey Register, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Koli Hobson was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

West Blocton pushed their record up to 25-10 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Hillcrest, their loss dropped their record down to 13-21-1.

Everything went Hillcrest's way against West Blocton in their previous meeting back in April of 2021, as Hillcrest made off with a 19-6 win. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
