Basketball Game Preview: Vanguard College Prep Lions vs. Delta Charter Dragons

The Vanguard College Prep Lions are taking a road trip to challenge the Delta Charter Dragons at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

On Thursday, Vanguard College Prep sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 64-62 win over Stockton Christian.

Vanguard College Prep found their leader in sophomore Xavier Lopez, who went 8 of 17 en route to 21 points. With that strong performance, Lopez is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Muriithi, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 13 points.

Meanwhile, Delta Charter can finally bid farewell to their nine-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 64-39 margin over Tioga. The Dragons' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Vanguard College Prep better focus on containing Jayden Walker and Jaylen West as the pair were huge in Delta Charter's win. Walker dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds, while West dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Dustin Sousa was another key player, putting up four points and seven rebounds.

Delta Charter was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Vanguard College Prep's victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Delta Charter, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.

Vanguard College Prep beat Delta Charter 56-47 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Will Vanguard College Prep repeat their success, or does Delta Charter have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
